Homes are built to meet needs
The function of homes
How resources, needs and environment affect shelters,
Why homes are different

How innovations impact our life.

G4 Peace Bridge Building

The resolution of conflict is influenced by the actions and reactions of all involved.

We identified Derry in Northern Ireland as a city that has been through a fair share of conflict in the past. Using this amazing city as our inspiration we built Peace Bridges which also coincided with World Peace Day on the 21st September 2018.

With Derry as our inspiration and Christy ringing in our ears https://t.co/HyJ7DUnDJy the G4 students built Peace Bridges - World Peace Day 2018 #swisroc @joannekimanders @N_L_Campbell @Renerenzy @ohalloranemmet @BrianJKasper @LenaGT @LBcloe @annie_waterston @MattManfredi1 pic.twitter.com/H0mvirjK3e

G1 Stop Motion Animation

Learning about the past helps us to understand the present

What life was like in the past.

How the past still influences us today.
Why aspects of life have changed or remained the same over time.

As part of the 'Where we are in Place and Time' Unit of Inquiry the Grade 1 Teachers and students learned how to create Stop Motion Animation short movies.

G4 Art Digital Citizenship

Digital Citizens have Rights and Responsibilities.

Grade 4 students completed a portrait study after discussing the purpose of using profile pictures and the responsibilities that come with using personal images online. They also created a collage background reflecting their knowledge of what it means to be a digital citizen.

Grade 2 - Simple Machines

G3 Systems Development

 How we Organize Ourselves
As part of the G3 UOI 'Systems are designed to meet the needs and wants of the people' students from all G3 classes visited the Makerspace to complete a design task.

On a personal level this UOI provided me with some of the most memorable and fun days I've ever experienced in education working alongside MrMark, who made me make a fool of myself in the name of education on more than one occasion during the task......videos below.

March 2018

Grade 3 teachers had a great planning session in the #SWISroc MakerSpace. They are really enthusiastic about the next unit using @Sphero as part of their math work (coordinated -Area -Mapping) and @Minecraft to create community systems. Students will also create model communities pic.twitter.com/mLNsSyy2D7

A really fun impromptu planning session with Mr.T in the MakerSpace. I think he is a little excited about the next UOI. #SWISroc @N_L_Campbell he’s lucky he received any help after knocking me out of the poker game last night..... pic.twitter.com/e9OTZKijO4

Mr. Mark in his eternal wisdom wanted the children to get a better understanding of the devastation which wrecks a community when a natural disaster such as an earthquake, hurricane or Tsunami hits. This was the video he managed to convince me to record as part of the process..................the children found it very amusing!!!! The second stage of his plan saw the children's work actually get partially destroyed as part of the process.

This is an excellent video. really worth watching. The children are writing their reflections for the G3 Systems MakerSpace task and Mr. Mark explains the planning and process to Mr. Arnaudon.

I hope they are not suggesting items were expensive in my store and that I was overcharging.....

Lots of fun this morning negotiating with the G3 students #SWISroc as part of their systems unit #MakerSpace. We sold lots of materials - I made a fortune! Charging them a security fee to look after their resources during snack time was a master stroke! @N_L_Campbell @Renerenzy pic.twitter.com/a8Xienr7Rg

G5 Space Travel Design Challenge

How the World Works

As part of the G5 UOI  'The universe is a system controlled by natural laws' the students took part in a design challenge in the Makerspace.
October 2017
In this UOI we introduced Lego Mindstorm EV3 Robotics to the G5 children for the first time. The children were set a design challenge by their teachers and had a selection of tools that they could use such as EV3, Littlebits, Sphero and Arduino. We also took this opportunity to introduce the Quik App to the students who used this at the end to create a short movie documenting the process before presenting to the entire class. We had a lot of fun in the process.

Coding with Scratch & Makey Makey

G4 students use coding with Scratch and Makey Makey as part of their math lesson on Shapes.

They are classifying shapes according to their properties.
